  1. (A) To Afford every eligible Bahamian the opportunity to be registered and to vote in free and fair elections.
  2. (B) To guarantee every eligible citizen equal rights and access to electoral system in determining who should govern the country.

Code of Conduct

The Parliamentary Registration Department (PRD) is the electoral management body of The Bahamas. It is an independent, non-partisan, neutral constitutional body. This code of conduct has been developed by the PRD in the interest of reinforcing its independence, neutrality and professionalism and to achieve an election that is accepted as free and fair by citizens of The Bahamas, all political parties, and the international community.

 

Employee Code of Conduct

As an employee of the Parliamentary Registration Department, I hereby swear that I will:

  1. Conduct myself in an irreproachable manner, observing the highest level of person integrity, professionalism, discretion and objectivity;
  2. Do nothing to bring disrepute to the electoral process;
  3. Refrain from the use of official resources for personal gain and neither solicit nor accept any gifts or favours that could be perceived as compromising my integrity;
  4. Maintain strict independence, reject and report any attempt at improper influence, and refrain from accepting direction regarding my responsibilities from any person except my official superior;
  5. Act in a strictly neutral and unbiased manner, not allowing personal relationship or considerations to influence the performance of my official duties or the interest of PRD;
  6. Refrain from publicly expressing any political views or views on any subject which may become a political issue in an election;
  7. Execute all duties assigned to the best of my ability in an impartial, non-partisan, neutral and equitable manner;
  8. Treat every registrant, voter, political party, observer, candidate, member of the media, and other participants or stakeholders in the electoral process in a respectful, fair, just and equitable manner;
  9. Protect the privacy of any sensitive or personal information entrusted to me in the course of my duties; and
  10. Abide by all laws, regulations and procedures governing the conduct of public officers and contract workers.

Are advised to report to their assigned polling place in advance of the start of pre-polling process, which begins at 7:30 am.

*Note that the time specified in the Act for the start of the pre-polling process is strictly adhered to. It is each candidate’s responsibility to ensure their agents are in place at the given time. Failure to do so will result in the process beginning without them.
